The Classics: Jane Austen

Hey Everyone!
Here's the my first Classics post! You ready to dig a little deeper into the best of literature? Let's start off with... Jane Austen!
What do you know about Jane Austen? Little, maybe nothing? Well, you’re not far off; the world knows hardly anything about Jane Austen, who she was, even what she looked like. There are a few surviving letters and paintings of her, but that’s about it. But in my opinion, we don’t need any of that. We can see who she was through her writing: passionate, romantic, humorous, incredibly smart, and craving for adventure.
Her novels all reflect all this in many different ways, mostly through her characters. I know that I put a lot of myself into my characters, Stephanie from my series is almost exactly like me, with a few tweaks here and there. I think Jane must have been a combination of Elizabeth Bennet and Marianne Dashwood. Both are adventurous and romantic, but brave and willing to say what they mean.
Jane Austen is a fantastic writer and is definitely a genius. She is definitely my all-time favorite writer, and a role model of mine. We definitely owe a lot to Miss Austen, for writing her many amazing books… and for creating Mr. Darcy!

New things...

Hello Everyone!
A few new peices of news I would like to share...
Firstly, my this blog may be going under a "redesign" period... mostly the background, so as to make it more interesting to look at.
Next, I'm making a series of blogs called The Classics. These will be covering my favorite classic authors and books. Should be a lot fun! So keep looking back for those, and also of course, more personal blogs and book reviews!
Okay... That's it for the new news! Now for Lizzie Babble...

Because I am DYING to see The Vow...

I love Channing Tatum, and Rachel McAdams! I melt every time I see the trailer, I can't wait until I can go see it!
Song of the Day: The Way You Look Tonight- Frank Sinatra
I Think I'm the only teenager in the world who listens to (and likes!) Frank Sinatra... This is quite a sad thing, because his music is great, way better than Justin Beiber (ugh...).

The hunt...

Hey Everyone!
It's been one of those nights...
Ever get the feeling you're being fallowed? Well I do now... by a spider. There I was minding my own business when I spot a HUGE (okay, maybe not SO terribly huge...) spider. And when I come back from my room and into the hall armed with a tissue, it's gone! Now I have that creepy crawly feeling. It's my room! I shouldn't be so intimidated my a spider. Now that I look back on it, I think it hissed at me... and it had fangs! Or maybe it was just my imagination...
It's going to be a looong night.
Song of the Day: Superman- Taylor swift
I've had this song stuck in my mind ALL DAY!!! At least it isn't the Sesame Street theme song...
Nite Nite!

Book Review: Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

Anna Oliphant, an Atlanta native, is happy where she is. She has an awesome best friend Bridgette. A job in a movie theater, and a love interest named Toph there, too. Anna is looking forward to her senior year at her high school, but her romance novelist father has different plans for her. He sends Anna away to a boarding school in Paris. And when Anna learns of the news, she is less than thrilled. But all those feelings melt away when she meets Etienne St. Clair during her first day of school. She falls for him instantly, but he’s taken, and she *kind of* is, too. How will this affect their new friend ship, and can they possibly turn into something more?
  I. Loved. This. Book. It is written finely written with humor and romance by its author, Stephanie Perkins. The main characters are all so lovable and relatable, Anna, a movie lover aspiring to be a movie critic. Etienne St. Clair, short, yet charming, but he is a loyal friend and has more depth to him than he shows. The story is one big roller coaster of romance, friendship, and adventures in the City of Lights. Filled with moments were you laugh until your sides hurt, and times where you want to reach into the book, grab the characters by the shoulders, and shake a little sense into them.
This book is definitely a must read! Pick it up at your local library or bookstore A.S.A.P.! Also, a little note to the author…You are truly a genius, please never stop writing!
Have a wonderful night everyone!

French rock and AMAZING Saturdays

Heyy everyone!
So, I had the CRAPPIEST week imaginable.I won't bore y'all with the details, so I'll just leave it at that. But just had the most ah-mazing Saturday ever! Seriously.
I woke up at 12, yes 12. I woke up first at 10 and then just wove in and out of sleep until I couldn't take it anymore. Sheer bliss.
My Day In A Nutshell...
Then, I had a delicious brunch with my family. My Momma is the best cook in the entire universe! Ha.
Then I wrote. And wrote. And wrote some more. I probably typed about four thousand words. If you think that's a small amount, it probably is. I am the slowest writer in the entire universe, so that's actually pretty good for me.
Earl Grey break. Yumm : )
Head upstairs and write some more. Get emotionally drained and watch two I Love Lucy episodes. They just don't make television like that anymore.
Finish second episode, head downstairs, plop on sofa, and take a nap.
Wake up and read for a bit.
Have a quesadilla for dinner (did I spell that right? tortillas with cheese? I dunno...) while watching a Northern Exposure episode with the parental units.
Watch another I Love Lucy, then the British hour on a local TV station. Love them British TV shows.
Aimlessly wander around author's websites on the web. New favorite author: Stephanie Perkins. She. Is. Amazing. I love her blog soo much!
And here I am, blogging and listening to my newest obsession... French Rock. Thanks Stephanie Perkins for introducing me! I have no idea what hey are saying... but I don't care!
So that was my day, I hope your day was great, too!
OH! I also wanted to share this picture with you...
It's a POPSICLE PIN!!!!!!! I got it from the cutest little boutique in the city near me a couple days ago, and I just thought to take a picture of it... It took forever for my camera to cooperate, but I got the picture. Also, in the process to find the pin, I knocked over a stack of carefully piled things on top of my desk. Is there a writer out there who's desk is clean? Anyone?
..... *cricketcricket* ....
Tehehe
Any way... Nitey nite everyone! Happy Saturday!

To the Bookstore!

Hey everyone!
So I just got home from a Barnes & Noble outing with my family, and I enjoyed myself as always. Armed with a gift card with $8 on it...
I got bored and just made this picture, pretty dumb, huh? Anyway, have any of you walked into a bookstore, taken a deep breath as you walked through the door, and felt completely at peace? Well, I always do when I walk into my bookstore! I wandered around for a while, and eventually found myself at the teens' section. I browsed for a bit, and I found the most awesome book! It's called Love Story by Jennifer Echols (Whose surprised that I was attracted to the title? Anyone who knows me shouldn't!). It's about a girl who is majoring in writing, which is what I'm planning on doing, so I'm excited to start reading it! But after I finish Anna and the French Kiss, of course. Then after I browsed for a while, I sat myself in the children's section and wrote (I chose the childrens' section because it's so quiet all the time, unless there's a screaming two year old or something like that). How could the evening have gotten any better? I don't think that it could have!
Song of the Day: Set Fire to the Rain- Adele
I've had this song stuck in my head ALL DAY!!! But it's okay because it's an amazing song, Adele's really outdone herself on this one! But then again, all her music is awesome so is it really a surprise?

Poetry Collection Review: Bang Ditto by amber Tamblyn

What do you think when you hear 'movie star'? Do you picture a spoiled, pigheaded diva with nothing but air up in her head? Well, Amber Tamblyn may be a movie star (she starred in the well known Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movies), but she's anything but brainless! How do I know? Her poetry proves it!
Amber Tamblyn's newest poetry collection, Bang Ditto is some of the best new poetry I've seen. I'm a huge fan of old poetry, Emily Dickinson and the Bronte sisters and the works, but I've never really liked the newer poetry of today. But when I was in a bookstore during the summer one day, I saw Amber's book. I recognized the name from the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (I'm a huge fan of the series and the movies). I knew she wrote poetry, but I didn't know that she had published a collection. I was intrigued, and so I picked it up and bought it. And so, after reading it at home, I was surprised. Amber's poetry was funny and satirical, it has something in it that anyone could enjoy. Her poetry was surprising, showing that this starlet has another side of her, deep and thoughtful. So if you're in the mood for some poetry, head over to your local library or bookstore and pick up this book. I promise you won't be disappointed!

Books Through the Ages: Middle School

Hey everyone!
I'm back again with my favorite books from Middle school! Enjoy!
Seventh Grade: TIE between Brooklyn Rose by Ann Rinaldi and the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer
I found this book at the local library, and was intrigued by it. When I took it home and read it, I loved it! The main character, Rose, is so relatable and lovable. Also, she has the same name (or at least part of my name) as me and has the same birthday as me! I also read this book every year just because I love it so much.
I have to admit, when I was in seventh grade, I was a total Twihard, seriously. I loved everything about the movies and the books. I got the greenlight from my mom to read it and read the whole series in a couple of weeks (what can I say? I'm a very slow reader). I still love the books, but I've calmed down quite a bit about them since seventh grade. The movies, I haven't cared much for since, but I have to say. Breaking Dawn part 1 was amazing!! Highly recommended!

Eighth Grade: Beastly by Alex Flinn
One of my friends introduced me to Beastly and I was hooked. I must have reread it a million times! Definitely Alex Flinn's best work! The best love story ever (yes, it beats Twilight by a mile!).
I hope you enjoyed Books Through the Ages! I think that I will be posting about my favorite books from Summer 2011 soon, because I found a couple of winners back then that I think you will enjoy, so keep checkin' up on the blog!

P.S.
SOO glad to be back! I've missed blogging so much!

Favorite Books Through the Ages: Elementary School

Hey everyone!
I'm sorry I haven't been on in forever! The last two weeks had to be dedicated to studying for finals, but I'm back now, and I thought I'd make it up to you guys by posting this post of Books Through the Ages!
I'm so excited to share with you guys my Favorite Books Through the Ages post! I've been looking through my collection all weekend and I finally narrowed the books down! I have to admit, that I could only remember fourth grade and up.... Sorry 'bout that! So anyway, without further ado, lets get to my Favorite Books Through the Ages!

Fourth Grade: The Secret Language of Girls by Frances O'Roark Dowell
I already have a post about this book, which is just down below if you would like my story about my relationship (for lack of a better word) this book!

Fifth Grade: The Amazing Days of Abbey Hayes Series by Anne Mazer
I LOVED this series during the last part of fourth grade, all through fifth, and some of sixth grade. I devoured this series, and I finished most of the books in at least one night. Some I even reread, and reread, and reread until I was finished with is. This one above was my very favorite one from the whole series.

Sixth Grade: The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick
I found this in my last year of elementary school, and I fell in love with it! It is the coolest book, with pages upon pages of the most amazing illustrations that show you what's happening in the story. I love this book so much, it's one of the books that I read every year just because I love it so much!
It's also a movie now, called Hugo, and I'm dying to see it! I'll probably have to wait until it comes out onto DVD.
That's it for the Elementary School years! Up next, middle school!

Funny how life goes...

Hey everyone!
So I was looking in my bookcase today in my bedroom, and I came across one of my very favorite books when I was old enough to read chapter books. This brought back so many memories! I remember those memories exactly, books that I love have very vivid memories attached to them. The book is called The Secret Language of Girls by Frances O'Roark Dowell. Here's a picture of my copy...

I wore this book out. It may not look like it from the picture, but there are creases in the cover and the binding is broken. The pages are worn and soft to the touch, and smell old yet familiar. Funny, I remember it being this mammoth book. I though that this book was the longest book ever, it's 247 pages long. Now that's a such a short book! When you grow, things that were hug to you when you were younger are so much smaller to you. It's kind of of like visiting your elementary school when you're a high schooler, and you think Did this place shrink? It's like that.
That's it for me right now, have an awesome weekend! I'll be on more over the next few days, school has been soo crazy with finals and all that. I'm working on the Anna and the French Kiss review! I can't wait to write the final draft and put it up! I know it's a lot of fuss for one book, but that's just how I roll. I have also been thinking that maybe that I'll post a "Books through the ages" post, because I really loved this post. Maybe I'll make it a series, spice things up a bit? I'll get to working on that this weekend! Have an awesome night!!
Small Stone of the Day:
The school lets out
The students disperse
They all walk in different directions,
alone and in groups
Like a bunch of little ants
We think we're important
But that's all we really are
A bunch of little ants
Going our separate ways

I know that this is a terribly long Small Stone, but I got the idea after school and I just couldn't resist!

Song of the Day: Dead Hearts- Stars
This is high school's theme song today. Let's just say I had a really, REALLY crappy day.

New Years resolutions

I wanted to do a little mini-review on a book I got for Christmas. Well, not really a review. I'm going to do a "before and after" type thing with my some of my book reviews, and this is a "before" review. These will have my first impressions, who the authors are, how I got it, etc.
The book is Jane Austen Made Me Do It. This book is a collection of stories inspired by Jane Austen's novels, and the Regency era. Here is the awesome cover...
Firstly, I adore this cover!! It's so pretty, with the ribbon and the painting, I think it's just so cute!
Scanning through the book, it looks like quite an interesting arrangement. One story, Jane Austen, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!  by Janet Mullany  is set in the 1960s. Letters to Lydia by Maya Slater is a story conducted with letters to Lydia Bennet, Pride and Prejudice star Elizabeth Bennet's airhead sister. There are also stories set in present times, including Me and Mr. Darcy, Again... By Alexandra Potter. There are also mystery stories about Jane Austen, like Jane Austen and the Gentleman Rogue by Stephanie Barron. I can not wait to start reading this book!
I will make sure I write a review on it as soon as possible, after I finish reading Anna and the French Kiss, which I will definitely finish soon, I'm flying through it! I can't wait to share that review with you guys and to get more reviews rolling during 2012! Have a nice night everyone!
